Excel – Intermediate Course

This Excel level 2 course has been created for delegates who have some previous experience of using Excel, but want to take their knowledge further. By the end of the day, delegates will be able to use functions confidently, and analyse data using pivot tables.

The day will consist of 3 x 90 minute sessions.

Course Objectives

By the end of the course you’ll be able to:

• Understand when to use relative or absolute referencing
• Use dynamic array functions (functions where their results spill across multiple cells)
• Create an IF() statement to test for a condition and return one of two possible answers
• Build SUMIF() and COUNTIF() functions to total or count figures based on one criteria
• Link data across sheets
• Format data as a Table in Excel
• Create a Pivot Table

Course Outline

Session 1

• Recap Excel formulas and functions
• Relative and absolute cell references
• Using range names
• Add data validation
• Use flash fill to split and tidy data
• Use Copilot to tidy data

Session 2

• Taking functions further – using IF, COUNTIF/COUNTIFS, SUMIF/SUMIFS
• Use Copilot to help understand functions
• Apply conditional formatting
• Using multiple sheets in an Excel workbook (hiding, moving, renaming, calculations across sheets)

Session 3

• Creating tables in Excel
• Using slicers to filter data quickly
• Creating pivot tables
• Editing and formatting pivots tables
• Use Copilot at help build pivot tables and analyse data
